Microsoft Silverlight Takes a Flash

Microsoft has given a go-to-market name for its cross-platform, cross-browser plug-in for delivering the next generation of user experiences and rich Internet applications for the Web (basically it is Microsoft’s equivalent to Adobe’s Flash). The technology formerly known as WPF/E is now known as Silverlight.

Microsoft announced Silverlight at the National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas on April 16. The NAB announcement highlights Silverlight uses for media users. The software company will announce further details about the technology at its own Mix07 conference, which starts at the end of April and runs through May 2 in Las Vegas.

An indepth look is giving from Microsoft’s Tim Sneath and Ryan Stewart also has a write-up on it, noting that “Silverlight finally gives Microsoft an easy web video solution.”

  1. Hi, I found this blog article while looking for help with fixing Microsoft Silverlight. I’ve recently changed internet browser from Safari to Microsoft IE 6. After the change I seem to have a problem with loading websites that have Microsoft Silverlight. Everytime I browse site that requires Microsoft Silverlight, my computer freezes and I get a “npctrl.dll” error. I cannot seem to find out how to fix the problem. Any help getting Microsoft Silverlight to function is greatly appreciated! Thanks
